If you're interested in performance you should probably be coding in any
compiled language such as C. The key feature of PHP is its power and
simplicity. It's very simple to learn, it's easy to code, it's free as in
"free beer" and "free speach" and it combines well with HTML and you have
libraries for almost every task you can think of.
