Thanks for the comments -- I've tried 'hello world' and phpinfo()
programs. Both work fine. I also happen to know that PHP is the only
supported scripting language on the server I am using.
I did notice that in the code I am using (supplied by someone else)
that the beginning of the "php block" started with <? rather than <?
php. When I make the change, I get other strange behaviors....
