Basic questions

Posted by Neal on 11/29/07 04:29

First, I am really new to php and don't expect to get way into it if it does
not meet my needs one way or the other.

The website is for an orchestra. Some pages include listings of performance
dates, or pieces performed in the past, and I can see MySQL being helpful
here. And I think it'd be wise to include such regular page features as
navigation, header, etc. As we are not selling anything online, all that end
of it is useless to me. I think.

I guess the basic question is this: I am really kinda overwhelmed with the
standard tutorials I have found. I'm a busy guy, I can't go through the
whole haystack just to find the needle I want. (Though if it's what must be
done, so be it.) Does anyone know of a resource that's targeted to what I am
looking for? Written in simple, layman's English?

If not, can anyone suggest an approach to study which will enable me to
encounter what I need first and foremost, and skip the parts I don't plan to
use?

I really want to focus on the simple, layman's English part of this. I am
experienced in HTML and XML but have a vague understanding of programming.

And BTW I have no opinion whatsoever on Jerry Stuckles. I'm sure he's a fine
guy to his friends. Just seems everyone here has something to say about
him...

Thanks for any assistance.
