Not sure what PHP files open with by default... "Screem" it seems but I
rarely use Screem. 99% of the time, I launch the file from the command
line, not my file manager, so I just type in the name of the editor I want
to use -- generally nano, nedit or SciTE.

I use the GNOME Tango icon set, which comes with icons for pretty much any
common file type, including PHP. Here's the PHP one:
