 Strange as it may seem, you'll probably find that this is the fastest
 method:
 
 'first part of string '.(($a==$b)?$c:$d).' rest of string'
 
 I benchmarked this a while ago and was surprised to find that
 multiple concats with single quotes are significantly faster than
 interpolation.
