Some (not all) Microsoft products do this in their license key fields. When
I'm filling them in they inevitably end up with field 1 containing the data
for field 1, field 2 being blank, field 3 containing the data for field 2,
field 4 being blank and so on.
Forms almost never do that, so those that do break rule one of usability
"Don't do things differently from the rest of the system." It confuses
users (especially when there is no clue that the control will act
differently)
