Thanks Kirsten,
I have upgraded to PHP 5.0.5 now and read the install guide as I did
it. I discovered that c:\windows had a copy of php.ini - which has now
been removed. I think it got there because I confused installation
instructions for php 4 with those for php 5 (I am using Wrox Beginning
PHP 4 book, as a tutorial).
