If you are running on Windows server, you can use ODBC. Excel ODBC
driver is preinstalled with Windows.
The example of conection string:
'Driver={Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls)}; FIRSTROWHASNAMES=0;
READONLY=FALSE; DBQ=C:\test.xls'
