Try this:

SELECT id, date_format(date, '%D %M %Y') as date, title, article,
catagory, publication
FROM articles
WHERE MONTH(date) = extract(MONTH from NOW()) AND YEAR(date) =
extract(YEAR from NOW())
ORDER BY `date` DESC
