I first started learning SQL with an O'Reilly "MySQL & mSQL" manual. Book had
good examples to work with and offered a good introduction. You'll probably
spend part of your time learning program feature unique to MySQL and the other
part learning SQL that you could apply to other database programs. The "Teach
Yourself SQL in 21 Days: is probably a good introduction, but may also want to
pick up a good manual specific to the program you're using.
