why not {$page_obj->getPageKeyValue($DIGIT)}
where the following method is defined in your object:

function getPageKeyValue($d)
{
if (!in_array($d, $this->digits) return null;
return $page_obj->{"page_key_$d_value"};
}

obviously untested, hth.
