text-overflow: ellipsis

as in

<div style="border: medium none; position: absolute; left: 20px; top:
50px;
width: 100%; height: 20px; overflow: hidden; text-overflow:
ellipsis">
<nobr>Hello, how are you?</nobr>
</div>

Note that only IE (and maybe Safari) supports this functionality.
