Thanks to everyone for their time and sharing their expertise! The
include file sounds great. I'll check with my ISP if I can place it
outside my home directory.

Im on a windows server this time around and used the IIS permission
settings to password protect the phpMyAdmin folder. Think I saw a file
permission setting. I'll try it if it needs to stay within the home
drectory. I'll have to experiment.
