The links are marked-up as a list, with each link containing text and an
empty SPAN element. The list itself is assigned a background image (the
spiral shape), and the SPAN elements have their own background images,
too (parts of the spiral with the text).
As the SPAN elements are the children of links, hovering over them is
analogous to hovering over the text links themselves (which are coloured
white, so you can't normally see them).
The final thing of note is that the containing list is given a black
background in addition to its background image. If images are disabled,
the links will still be shown white-on-black.
So, the answer to the question is: the white text links that normally
sit in the white region of the background image.
