I was curious and asked if somebody knew. I found some information that
they are actually running Oracle, but I was wondering more about the
webservers and their number to keep up with the traffic. When one clears
the cache and loads Ebay front page, browser downloads 350k of files
from various servers.

It apears to me that dynamic content is generated using IIS and ISAPI
extension (URI is /ws/eBayISAPI.dll). Thats only my speculation as
eBayISAPI.dll can be anything and server signatures could be disguised too.

I did read some article somewhere that in 1999 Sun server failed and
Ebay was down for 22 hours and then they selected IBM as a solution
vendor after tinkering with Microsoft ASP.NET.

Which signature in headers would be the front-end if they have multiple
"Server: xyz" records (see my original post) ? Or the order does not
mean anything ... ?
