|I tried setting up a php/apache/mysql server manually, but I just couldn't
| get all three things working together on my archaic windows 98 machine, so
I
| went and got an installer called phpdev, and although I know it's not the
| preferred method, I'm really glad that I did, because everything works
| great, but I've got a little bit of a problem, and I was hoping someone
here
| might know.
|
| You see, phpdev is set up to only run on localhost, and I'd like to go
live.
| Not for serving, but just so I can say, "hey guys, look at this" when I
need
| some help or extra input. Phpdev also sets up phpmyadmin, which I didn't
| even know about before installing phpdev, but it's set to run with the
| default "root with no password" of mysql. When I change this default in my
| RDBMS, I can no longer get phpmyadmin to work. So I guess I've got two
| questions here.
|
| How do I get my server to run on the internet, so I can invite people to
| have a look? And how do I get phpmyadmin to work using a real user name
and
| password?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
if you've got a broadband connection, register a domain name (like with
network solutions or whomever). if your isp is giving you a dynamic ip, get
a free account with dyndns and download their ip address updating software.
when your ip changes, the software tells dyndns what the new ip is so your
domain name points to the correct address. that's about it. other server
configuration stuff needs to be asked in another ng that deals specifically
with that topic.
