Is that supposed to solve a problem or create a time bomb?

You still haven't specified what you originally saw as the problem. If you
set all margins and paddings for ul and li elements zero, then set the
desired left padding (or margin) to whatever value you prefer (you should
prefer one expressed in em units, btw), what _is_ the problem?
