I've not misunderstood at all. You make your site the way you want to,
and I will make mine the way I want to. It doesn't hurt the SERPS or
visitors at all.

Possibly. I have never tried. Don't want to either. I make sites for
me. I make them for fun, not for business reasons.

I think strict is too strict.

I think validation is important. But not the most important thing. Out
of the 6000+ pages, there are about 3 or 4 pages that do not validate.
That is because I had different backgrounds and didn't want to bloat
the css any more than need to.
