That depends on what you mean by "client applications". It's a
server-side language. Of course you can run the interpreter locally
and produce utilities and similar that therefore execute locally, but
in most cases you'll be better off using C for any non-trivial work of
that kind.

I agree wholeheartedly with Toby, btw: the biggest issue is not the
language, it's that writing for the web compared to writing for local
execution is like the difference between chalk and cheese.
