Just cooperate. Do not try to get all the world's attention, but specify
what your page has to offer. There are meta tags in HTML to do that, and
off course the content of your page should reflect this.
Try to be specific. If you write a page about a webserver, use "web
server" and not "internet", for instance.
Most bots (the trustworthy ones, anyway) respect the robots meta tag.
Use it.
Finally, like quite often is written:
If all else fails, consult the manual.
Google and a lot of other search engines have pages that specifically
state what they like and what they do not like.
