Same argument could be used for IE 6, or FireFox 1. Many people still
use old versions of software, which obviously don't meet the latest
guidelines...

Many of those things are exceptions on all modern browsers. I think you
are misinterpreting the W3C guidelines as standards; they are not. They
are a set of generally agreed ways of doing things that browsers should
aim at supporting. It's not a definitive list of functionality, it's not
a list of "must haves". Just a general guideline. Now, the majority of
modern browsers mean 99% of the guidelines for the various "standards"
(XHMTL1.0, CSS2 etc) and render these elements in fairly similar ways.
This makes life a lot easier for a designer. It'll get better too, each
browser slowly maturing and getting closer and closer to the guidelines.

There will always be differences between the browsers, it's just one of
those things.

Overall, Opera is a great browser. It's closer to the guidelines for
most of W3C recommendations than many browsers (IE7 being a prime
example). It's faster than almost any other browser.
