I read about PEAR in here a few days ago and thought I would give it a try
but I have got myself in a mess with the installation. I have found some
guides but they seem to move swiftly on from installation and get down to
using it.

I am using PHP 5.2.3 which came with NuSPhere PhED and is installed under
the NuSphere directory, PHP and Apache both work fine (on localhost).
There is also a 'PEAR' directory under the PHP directory which just had
go-pear.phar in it. This is on XP Pro SP2.

By following the instructions I found, I have got to the stage where this
directory now contains directories and files relating to PEAR. But it also
contain a directory called PEAR which contains a directory called PEAR and
so on down 5 levels. Although they seem to contain similar files they
don't seem to be identical.

It seems to me that I have probably made a mess of this :-(

Before I go too far trying to fix this manually can anybody tell me (a) if
PEAR can happily sit in:
C:\Program Files\nusphere\phped\php5

or is it better elsewhere?

and (b) that there should really be only 1 PEAR directory and not the
succession I have?

Many thanks.
