I usually test my SQL queries outside of the PHP functions so that I can narrow
down problems easier. If the query works on its own, it should plugin to the PHP
functions fine.

My news server has a newsgroup names alt.php.sql that had lighter traffic but
may be an alternate place for posts related more to SQL than PHP.
