If these records are identified by a number for example, assign them to
the 'value' attribute of your select options:
<select name="foo">
<option value="1">first name</option>
<option value="2">second name</option>
...
</select>
After submit, you can find the number of the chosen option in
$_POST['foo'] or $_GET['foo'].
