This function is supposed to strip a fixed N characters from the right,
reducing "REWARDING" to "REWARD" with myterm in column C, and N = 3.
Currently I have:

SELECT LEFT (myterm, LENGTH(myterm)-N) from C

Can this be shortened a bit?
