For a newbie who wants 'complete basics' the php net website isnt what I
would call a good rule of thumb .

A typical newbie wont know what to search for at the beginning and the
php net website at this stage is of little use apart from the usual
hello world stuff .

IMHO php net only becomes useful after x amount of time and the user has
learnt the usual basic skills and has something to build on .
