I imagine ALA's only reason for setting a fixed width (regardless of
what that width might be) is because they have never bothered to make a
flexible design before. Why start now?

Ironically, I always thought ALA was most usable with stylesheets
disabled. Looks like that still holds true. :(

My browser window is almost always less than 900px wide, but at least
1000px high. Screen size is larger, of course.
