Double quotes expand variables, that is, if $a = 2, then echo "The value is $a2"; will print "The value is 2". Single quotes return strings literally. So, echo 'The value is $a2' would print The value is $a2 Cheers rory walsh wrote: > Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between double quotes and > single quotes? Cheers, > Rory. >
