If you like deep bass, I recommend investing in a Bag End Infrasub
(www.bagend.com). Like 8 or 16 Hz at the bottom. Too cool. I don't remember
the exact specs but Infrasubs do go below 20Hz. Not that there is a lot of
material with this frequency range available, but stuff like pipe organs on
vinyl, that is some shit to hear.
Some listeners have said that the only way to get really good bass is to
have 2 subwoofers, but I have never heard a comparison. AFAIK, anything
under 100 cycles is onmnidirectional, so the really important thing is
placement in the room. I messed with a 12" sub a few years ago, and I ended
up with it about 2' from the back wall and out by like 5' from the side. The
boom factor is the biggest sticking point for most acute listeners, but this
can be ameliorated by pulling the cab out from the wall just the right
amount.
