What's the future of video? VHS is dying: DVDs are popular; as is
on-demand digital television. On-demand digital TV is not "rebelling
against" DVDs -- they are simply two different options that consumers
have -- some people will buy DVDs; some will watch on-demand TV; some
people will do both.
Similarly, XHTML 2.0 and HTML 5.0 are different options available to
web page authors. Some people will use XHTML 2; some HTML 5; and some
people will use both for different purposes; some people might choose
to take advantage of XHTML 2's semantic capabilities and XML-based
nature to store their information on the server, but then transform
the information using server-side scripts into HTML 5 to send to the
browser.
The HTML 5 authors are not trying to rebel against the W3C -- in fact,
they're each *members* of the W3C.
