Well actually they would have to me PNGs not GIFs or you will get a very
pixelated result like staring at your TV with your nose against the
screen! You would need PNG with alpha channel transparency for each of
the RGB channels, GIF's only use masks with a index color dedicated to
the mask. I guess you could fragment a GIF like a puzzle and
superimposed them to put the pieces together to complete the 254 max
color image, yuck!
Really though is it is published on the web it can captured, copied and
saved...
