ah, horde provides access to a mail server using
IMAP. so therefore, it requires IMAP (or POP3).
basicly does what chirag wants to build.

I don't know of any freebies for Windows, although
if you have a spare box around SME Server is well
worth a look, and will do what you want straight
out of the box with little config, although it is
a whole OS (linux base)
