In the special case you would read the entire record, you could also use
the HANDLER statement.
HANDLER <table name> OPEN AS <handle name>;
HANDLER <handle name> READ `PRIMARY`=3;

It is wise to close the handle later with HANDLER <handle name> CLOSE;
