Steve, statements like "OMG" are like a rocking chair, its fun to do
but it really doesn't get anyone anywhere.

Thanks for your more constructive response as opposed to the initial
one. Trust me, I have done a LOT of reading and spent a BUNCH of time
on this. As I admitted in the original post I am new to this but I am
confident I followed the steps needed. For instance, everything you
stated above I tried days ago, before even posting here. Thus why I
felt the need to make a post.

I have gone through the automatic and manual installation of PHP as
outlined on PHP.net. I have used IIS and Abyss web server to host my
site. In both cases I could test to make sure IIS and the web server
were working perfectly for normal html, no issues. For both I followed
the detailed steps for setting up PHP to work with them and neither
would. Specifically, you can find some instructions for setting up PHP
with Abyss here:

As you can see from the instructions it seems very straight forward but
for some reason didn't work for me.

Finally, my reasoning behind expecting to be able to double-click on
index.php and have it open IE and see the page was because I saw it
specifically stated on http://www.simplephpblog.com/. This is the PHP
web site I am trying to use and it seems very easy but obviously isn't
if you can't get PHP working. I understand the reasoning behind going
through http://localhost but all I receive is a display of the written
script in index.php, not the web page itself that should be a result of
the script if PHP was running properly.

At this point I just don't know anymore. I'm exhausted from trying and
I am giving some consideration to reimaging my webserver and starting
from scratch with PHP installation as my initial focus.
