I don't think you read the question. Of course you can examine the
local filesystem, but OP was asking if he could list the files of a
remote server; those files presumably being the documents that are
publicly served as a web site.

Unless these documents are all hyper-linked from a known start document
you cannot list them as you could a local filesystem (exception: if the
site has no index document and the web server creates an automatic
index)
