In order for me to use fopen to create a file on my host, the containing
folder need to have the permissions 777. With anything less I get the error:

Warning: fopen(testfile.txt): failed to open stream: Permission denied
in /home/sam/public_html/testing/fopen/test1.php on line 2

Is this usual or a peculiarity with my host, and what security measures
must I take to prevent any problems later on.
