As I said, I never wrote what you paraphrased. The eval function is
/not/ pointless, but it is rarely needed. So far, you have failed to
prove that it is necessary here, but you have demonstrated quite
succinctly that you don't understand what I've written.

You compare those two lines, and the most significant difference you see
is that I terminated the expression statement with a semicolon? Good grief!

I didn't nitpick over syntax errors (though I did say that what you
posted would constitute one). I highlighted that you missed the very
point I was making: I suggested bracket notation, yet somehow you
translate that into string concatenation.
