So...my blog has nifty scroll arrows now:
http://www.backwater-productions.net/hatter-blog/
I had to pretty much kill Jesus in order to make them though. It's
also not ~completely~ perfect yet. I swear, Macromedia is just
pissing me the hell off with their variable, shit ridden support of
integrated HTML. Bastard won't even let me use the strike tag. I
think my next lil upgrade will be to make it so I can change the font
color...which I could technically do now, except that it would also
change the text backdrop color too. I need to add in a script that
can take the blog entry text and then strip out the HTML color tags
before sending it to the backdrop text variable. That's one of the
really nice things about Flash though, you can assign multiple objects
the same variable. The backdrop text was created by duplicating the
original text eight different times and then offsetting each copy 1
pixel in every direction (left, right, top, bottom, left top, left
bottom, right top and right bottom). It'd be nice if there was text
outlining built into Flash to begin with, but, that's okay, sometimes
it's more fun to figure out your own methodology.
Another problem I'm having is that when a text entry is loaded the
drop downs gets slowed down a WHOLE lot...probably a result of
imbedding mixed Flash versions...but at the moment there's no real way
around that.
Something else I just noticed is that for some reason it occasionally
"misses" blog entries, meaning it doesn't highlight all the dates (you
can still click on the day and it'll load the entry though). I think
it's a download speed issue, where it's rendering the calendar before
it has a chance to access all the data it needs from the PHP
scripts/SQL database. Problem with that is that if I make it
continuously check it'll use up more client side resources...which may
not be so good for those with shit computers. I should add in some
kind of a check variable that the PHP scripts can send and then it'll
just run a continuous nothing loop until it gets that variable, at
which point it'll then render the calendar and end the loop...that
should probably solve teh problem.
*sigh*
So much to do...SO MUCH!
But right now I'm gonna go do something non-constructive...like watch
a movie or something.
