There's an article in this month's PHP|Architect from a recruiter and
he/she spouts about how useful it is, as it's the only real standard for
proving some level of competence in PHP.
Studying for the exam certainly taught me some things I didn't know (or at
least didn't know off the top of my head) and I've been using PHP
professionally since 1999.
