The one recommended by Jonathan Little (for uploads too) is
excellent, it works fine on XP for example. But you are right
nevertheless, a dedicated is the best way to go... As long as it
can be gotten securely of course, no tricks, no questionable
certificates.
On the Mac, for dedicated: Transmit is tops. Cheaper and no
frills and quite adequate is Cyberduck, very nice help and
responsive creator.
