Thanks so much Martin. 
It is a wonderful example for a beginner like me. 
Any chance that you would have, or could point me to, a PHP script where  
when a file on a PHP supported website was linked to in the HTML, it would  
ask for a User Name and Password to be entered, and then consult a table in  
a file, and link to the matching file to be displayed? 
Thus effectively allowing a site visitor to access only the page that he had  
the access information for from maybe a total of 20 available.. 
If I was to search for such a script, what would it be likely to be called?
