I suggest you take a look at SEO-Board then (http://www.seo-board.com/).

1. Here is the kicker... it threw me at first. You have to first make a forum (which
will serve as the category). THEN create ANOTHER forum and choose the FIRST FORUM as the
parent category.

So, it is a multi-forum package, but you can get away with doing it in that fashion.

The only drawback to that I see is this: someone comes to your site with the forum; they
must first click on PARENT_FORUM (which can have a description), THEN they are presented
with CHILD_FORUM (which can have a description) where they can actually post (in the
CHILD_FORUM, not *at* it). So, as long as an extra click or two does not bother you, you
are set.

Let me explain further:

I go to http//board/ (local)
I see:

Family Ramblings - A place for my girls and wife to talk to me and post, well, whatever
they like.
---Kids
Daughter1, Daughter2, Daughter3, and Daughter4 can talk to Daddy here.
---Mommies and Daddies
Um... you know.

So, one click on "Kids" or "Mommies and Daddies" and I am in the forum, capable of
posting.

Only one click in that instance!

2. MySQL and extremely fast! It is so minimalist it is pathetic. Yet, while mainmast,
it is nowhere near pathetic or weak.

3. Once logged in as an Administrator, you must view the post (obviously), at the bottom
of that post you have several options: edit; delete; move; lock; and make sticky.

Not to mention it is SEO/SEF (seach engine optimized/search engine friendly) as long as
you have mod_rewrite available to you.

I wrote a forum very similar to this a long time ago that was only one forum (as soon as
you got to the forum, you were presented with topics) and it was SUPER fast and nice and
barebones; easily skinnable via CSS; allowed full moderation of EVERYTHING: users; posts;
permissions; hidden topics; disallowed HTML input by default; supports extended BBCode and
several other options.

However, the more I sat here looking at it, I could not help but think that it was a
suped-up version of my guestbook script. So, inevitably it never made it to a production
server.

Ah well, check out SEO-Board.
