Thanks for the feedback, your thought was a good one but unfortunately
didn't work when I tried it. I get the same message, just now with the
back ticks:
#1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that
corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use
near '( `pass` , 'asdf' ) FROM test LIMIT 0, 30' at line 1
