It most likely has to do with the greediness of *. Regular expressions
will match the *longest* possible string. To prevent this, use '?'.
given the string: "<a>text</a>more</a>"
<a>.*</a> matches "<a>text</a>more</a>"
<a>.*?</a> matches "<a>text</a>"
