Hmmm, that should work. GUI apps on Windows have null stdout. An
attempt to write to it would fail:
$stdout = fopen("php://stdout", "wb");
if(@fwrite($stdout, "Error: the dingo ate my baby\n") == 0) {
// do something else
}
