The server makes a correction of an invalid URI :-)

Agreed, but that means a file like foo.xyz will be the default startup file
in a directory.
What I meant was a configuration where the extension could be ommitted. But
even that seems to be possible as I read in the article where David Parnell
pointed to: http://www.w3.org/Provider/Style/URI
