From my point of view the PHP is the static HTML page where I can some part
generate dynamicaly on the server side. IMHO the biggest lapse of (some) PHP
programmers is, that PHP is the programming language :-)
By me the PHP is thick with tons of almost similar functions and a big
handicap is that PHP must swith between parse (HTML) and script (php) modes.
I use Perl for issues where the main file is about tens or hundreds kBytes
and all must be in the one or some few files. If I use PHP then html code is
on average 60-80% and the remainder only is PHP. Maybe you accept my opinion
and try to learn Perl too ;-)
BTW the first PHP was be wroted in Perl, not in C as today.
I was trying to write "the same" web pages using MySQL in PHP and Perl. If I
measured the response time for page with 1000 rows table, the Perl was be
about 30% faster. Measured at midnight on the same Linux server.
