Hi All
First sorry if this is the wrong place to post.

I would like to write a monitoring system for a system of multiple
application servers across multiple machines. There are a variety of
properties files I would like to be able to edit from within the system
and services I would like to monitor. (The machines can be on diff OS
s but are mainly on Nix boxes) I did toy with using PHP to create a
telnet connection to the machine in question, but it was clumsy and
didn't work that well.
Could anyone suggest the best way of approaching the problem. Just a
few hints about the direction would probably be enough
