Depending on your hoster and the operating system, it may be possible to
mount the backup location as a part of your web site folder structure
with read and write permission. With that, you should be able to do
what you are asking. I do a similar thing on an Intranet (images as
well) and it works fine. The thing is that I have control of both servers.
