So it's not so much coding standards as coding "suggestions" :-p
I've only worked in the coding suggestion type of environment. On a
team of less than a dozen, I don't think it really hurts to have one
person do something slightly different than another. Sure, sometimes
it can be annoying, but not intolerable. I'd say that for larger
groups, though, enforcement is much more important.
